India has been experiencing significant population growth for several decades. It has a high fertility rate, and a large proportion of its population is in the reproductive age group. Additionally, improvements in healthcare, sanitation, and living standards have contributed to increased life expectancy, leading to a larger population.
China is projected to go further down
On the other hand, China has implemented policies to control population growth, such as the one-child policy that was in effect for several decades. This policy was relaxed in 2015, allowing couples to have two children. However, the impact of these policies on China's population growth rate may have contributed to India's population surpassing China.
